UPDATE – Orbán meets Xi Jinping

“It is important to us Hungarians that China pushes for peace in the world.” This was stated by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who met with President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday.

“We are a peace-loving country that strives for peace, balance and harmony. That is why we are always on the side of the peace camp and never on the side of war,” said Orbán, who has high hopes for China to bring peace to the world. “We greatly appreciate your peace initiative to resolve the armed conflict in our neighborhood, in whose shadow we have had to live for two and a half years now,” the Hungarian assured his host.

Friendship between peoples

The Prime Minister recalled the Chinese President’s visit to Hungary two months ago, which he said was of historic importance. More important than all the agreements reached during the visit was the friendship between the two peoples: Xi Jinping had conveyed China’s goodwill and respect to the people of Hungary in an impressive and warm manner. This visit will shape the relationship between the two peoples for generations. Viktor Orbán congratulated China on its firm and stable position in this stormy world politics.

Xi Jinping: Radiate positive energies!

Xi Jinping called on the world’s leading powers to help Russia and Ukraine return to direct dialogue and to the negotiating table. “The international community must create the conditions for this dialogue,” the Chinese president told his Hungarian guest. However, he warned that a ceasefire in this conflict would only come regarding when all the major powers radiate positive energy instead of negative energy. Xi Jinping praised Viktor Orbán for his efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis politically.
Looking ahead to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU next year, the Chinese President said that there are no fundamental conflicts of interest – both sides should continue to work together in this sense. Beijing hopes that Hungary can play a positive role in advancing constructive dialogue during its EU Council Presidency over the next six months.

“In addition to the warring parties, it is up to the three world powers, the USA, EU and China, to decide when the Russian-Ukrainian war will end.”
