Orange is reorganizing its fixed internet offers. As a result, customers with the slowest subscription will have to pay more starting January 14. It is interesting to note that the telecom operator markets the new formulas under the name “fiber”, while the cables are not yet entirely fiber.
Orange until now only had one fixed Internet subscription, Internet Home, where customers might buy options to surf faster. From now on, the operator will offer four plans with different names: Start Fiber (150 Mbps), Zen Fiber (400 Mbps), Giga Fiber (1 Gpbs) and All-In Fiber (1 Gbps + additional comfort services). Existing customers will be transferred automatically.
Initially, prices will remain unchanged, but from January 14 there will be changes. From this date, people with the slowest subscription will have to pay 45 euros instead of 40 euros per month for fixed internet in the Love-pack (with mobile and/or television subscription) and 49 euros instead 46 euros for fixed internet only.
Those who already have faster internet access as part of the Love offer thanks to the ‘boost now’ option will pay the same amount following January 14. Those who have a separate internet subscription of 400 Mbps or 1 Gbps will pay 2 euros less per month, or 59 euros or 69 euros per month respectively.
The choice of “Fiber” (fiberglass) in the marketing is striking, because Orange uses the Telenet network in Flanders. It requires the operator to add a footnote to remind that fiber optic technology always has a “coaxial connection”. This means that the last meters of the network, from street cabinets to homes, are still made up of “old” coaxial cables.
