Newborns are among the most affected groups of oral thrush, and this is due to their weak immune system and its inability to combat oral fungus.

Symptoms of oral thrush in infants
A mother can discover that her infant has oral thrush through the following symptoms:
Cracked corners of the mouth.
Spreading of white spots on the inside of the lips or cheeks.
A white coating on the tongue.
Stop breastfeeding.
Diaper infection.

Causes of oral thrush in infants
Weakened or not fully developed immunity is not the only cause of oral thrush in children. It also occurs when taking antibiotics, as they may kill the good bacteria that prevent candida infection from growing. Steroid medication is also associated with it.

Treatment of oral thrush in infants
Oral thrush in infants goes away without the need for medical treatment within a week or two. In some cases, the doctor may prescribe an antifungal solution for the child’s mouth.
And if the child is older than 9 months, the doctor may advise him to offer him yogurt, because it contains lactobacilli, which are good bacteria that eliminate the yeast infection in his mouth.

Tips for protecting infants from oral thrush
Clean the nipples of the formula bottle and the pacifier thoroughly with hot water following each use.
– Refer to the doctor if the nipples are inflamed, to obtain antifungal ointments, if it is proven that the mother has a yeast infection, which may be transmitted to the child through breastfeeding.
