To have good health, it is vital to eat in a balanced way.

Physical activity is essential for the health of the body and the mind as well, since doing so releases stress accumulated by daily tasks, and gives the brain a positive message, which activates it for the development of the day.

According to the Mayo Clinic, exercising helps “prevent excessive weight gain or help maintain weight loss, because you burn calories. Being active raises high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, or ‘good’ cholesterol, and lowers unhealthy triglycerides. This instant formula gets your blood flowing normally, which reduces your risk of cardiovascular disease.”

Likewise, the portal highlights that physical activity “stimulates various brain chemicals that can make you feel happier, more relaxed and less anxious.”

Therefore, they ensure that between 150 and 300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week is ideal for adults, and an average of 60 minutes of moderate physical activity a day for children and adolescents.

For her part, psychiatrist Laura Villamil states that “exercise generates the release of endorphins, which work as powerful natural analgesics, and improve feelings of discomfort and pain. In addition, it promotes the release of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, noradrenaline and dopamine, substances that improve people’s mood.

“Likewise, exercise improves self-esteem, generating physical benefits and promoting the development of self-control and motivation,” adds the doctor.

Having said this, it is important to note that depending on what you want to achieve, it is vital to take into account the hours in which physical activity is practiced.

This was found by Dr. Paul J. Arciero, a professor in the Department of Human Physiological and Health Sciences at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, in New York, United States, investigated what happened to the body when they exercised in several men and women at different times.

Dr. Arciero, stated: “Here we show for the first time that for women, exercise during the morning reduces abdominal fat and blood pressure, while exercise at night in women increases muscle strength, power and endurance of the upper body, and improves general mood and nutritional satiety.”

“We also show that for men, nighttime exercise reduces blood pressure, heart disease risk and feelings of fatigue, and burns more fat, compared to morning exercise,” said the researcher.

The expert, in turn, highlighted that his research demonstrated “the benefits of both morning and evening multimodal exercise (RISE) to improve cardiometabolic health and mood, as well as physical performance outcomes in women and men.”

The team concluded that exercise time per day “may be important in optimizing individual exercise-induced health and performance outcomes in physically active individuals and may be independent of macronutrient intake.”

A total of 59 women and 30 men were initially shortlisted, of which 30 women and 26 men were eligible to participate. Participants “were healthy, fit, non-smoking women and men with no known cardiovascular or metabolic diseases, as assessed by a medical history and comprehensive medical examination,” the study states.
