Drinking is essential, of course! But how much do we really need each day?

“Water is life”

Do we really need to remind people of the benefits of hydration? No. The body is mostly made up of water, which is at the center of everything in the body.

In other words, we put fuel back into our body so that it is always water balanced. The latter is released through urine and perspiration in particular, which is why you must drink in sufficient quantities.

Everyone knows it, but too many people still neglect it today! Moreover, it is advisable not to wait until you are thirsty to hydrate!

How much should we drink?

Many studies have decided to tackle the quantity of water needed each day for a man. In 2007, the Mayo Clinic from Rochester (Minnesota, United States) in turn evaluates the daily needs that we require. First, they indicate that many factors cause this figure to vary:

Increased physical activity; Hot and humid weather; Dry air and living at altitude, therefore less humid; Having an illness.

It is often said that you should drink 1L of water per day. According to American experts, this figure is far too insufficient. They recommend having an average water intake of 2.7L every day.

However, there is no need to drink almost 3L of liquid per 24 hours. In reality, a significant portion of the water intake the body receives is found in thefood. This represents approximately 20% of this water intake. Thus, a perfectly hydrated person drinks on average 2.2L of water per day.

A glass of water corresponding on average to 25 cl of water, this is equivalent to drinking 9 glasses per day. So, remember to drink 2 or 3 glasses with each meal and hydrate yourself well during the day and you will easily reach the 2.2L which may seem important at first glance!

In reality, few people diligently calculate their water consumption. Difficult to implement or deemed too little useful, paying attention to the quantity we drink is often too restrictive.

However, there are a few checks you can do quickly and simply to find out if you are drinking enough. Firstly…if you’re not thirsty! The body is fantastic, it tells you everything you need! If you don’t feel thirsty, you don’t urgently need water.

However, be careful with aging. Over time, we feel less thirsty and it is recommended to hydrate even without feeling the need.

You can also monitor the color of your urine. If the latter is colorless or slightly yellow, your water intake is satisfactory!
