Swiss does not intend to give up its connection between Geneva and Zurich, despite criticism from certain circles concerned about the ecological impact. “We want to optimally connect French-speaking Switzerland to our network,” declares its director Dieter Vranckx.

The latter was speaking in response to a question in the interview he gave to SonntagsBlick on Sunday. The boss of the company, who will leave his position in July, also indicated that a connection between Lugano and Zurich would also prove interesting for Swiss as soon as electric planes were available. “Such a line would be attractive to connect Ticino to our Zurich platform,” noted Dieter Vranckx.

By 2030, Swiss plans to halve its CO2 emissions compared to 2019. The zero emissions target is expected for 2050.

“Flying has a cost”, according to Dieter Vranckx

Concerning ticket prices, the director of the Lufthansa subsidiary dismissed the idea that they would be too high. The average cost in 2023 was 3% lower than in 2022.

“Swiss has never had the lowest prices, and this will not be the case in the future either. Flying has a cost, for us it is also about financing new planes and the use of technologies environmentally friendly”, underlined the Swiss-Belgian director.

In passing, he advises passengers to book early enough to benefit from the best prices. And according to him, it is a “myth” to believe that prices vary depending on the location from which you book or the device used to buy your ticket. “It doesn’t work like that at Swiss.”
