Opposition to SNCF Salary Measures: SUD-Rail Union Mobilization

2023-11-14 20:24:15

The SUD-Rail union plans to “build a powerful mobilization” to oppose the salary measures proposed by SNCF management for the year 2024 and does not rule out days of action during the Christmas holidays.

“In the coming weeks, we are determined to build a powerful mobilization, exclusively on the subject of wages,” warned SUD-Rail in a letter addressed to the other SNCF unions – the CGT-Cheminots, the Unsa-Ferroviaire and the CFDT-Cheminots – and revealed Tuesday by The Parisian.

The union, third in terms of representativeness within the railway group, wants to force the SNCF to “reopen negotiations and respond to our demands which are quite simply a question of social justice”.

Last Wednesday, the management of the public group announced that it had proposed an “average increase” in salaries of 4.6% for the year 2024, including a 1.8% general increase. At the same time, low wages would receive an additional boost so that everyone finds themselves at least 10% above the minimum wage.

According to the group’s HR director Philippe Bru, with the increases granted in 2022 and 2023, salaries will have increased by 17% on average over three years if the proposal for 2024 is applied. SUD-Rail describes this figure as a dishonest “communication plan”. Erik Meyer, federal secretary of the union, hopes to be able to create the conditions for union unity to “decide as unitedly as possible what we put in front of management to seek better”.

“And at this time, we are not excluding anything,” he assured AFP: “the possibility of having one or more days of action in December which would include the big departures is on the table “. In the absence of a percentage increase, Sud would prefer a uniform amount for all with an increase of 400 euros per month as a basis for negotiations to be negotiated.

SUD-Rail continues to consult its members until November 21 but “what comes up is that the vast majority are opposed to signing the agreement”, indicated Erik Meyer. Proposed by management, this is subject to signature by the unions until November 22. Unsa-ferroviaire, the group’s second union, must release a position on Wednesday.

Last year, only the CFDT signed the agreement on compulsory annual negotiations (NAO). A strike by controllers, launched outside of any union framework, then caused massive disruptions in the middle of the Christmas weekend.
