A resolution urging the withdrawal of the plan to discharge contaminated water from Fukushima and the preparation of measures for the safety of aquatic products and the protection of fishermen was passed by the National Assembly led by the opposition party.

The National Assembly held a plenary session today (30th) and passed the resolution to block the discharge of contaminated water in Fukushima with 171 votes in favor and 1 abstention among 172 registered members.

The resolution proposed by Park Kwang-on, floor leader of the Democratic Party, ▲postponing marine dumping for at least six months ▲establishing a permanent consultative body for the government of Korea and Japan and conducting an environmental impact assessment ▲establishing a Korea-Japan expert group within the permanent consultative body and jointly reviewing Japan’s five preemptive measures ▲establishing a safe disposal plan ‘Seven Demands’ were included, including proposals for financial costs and support for neighboring countries.

The power of the people exited the vote, saying that a resolution containing a unilateral proposal without an agreement between the opposition parties might not be accepted.

Immediately following the resolution was passed, People’s Power Floor Representative Yoon Jae-ok said, “It is extremely rare for the National Assembly to process a resolution without an agreement between the opposition parties, and there is no such case.” It’s a situation that has happened, but we have violated the promises we made.”

At the same time, Representative Yoon said, “The bipartisan agreement related to the Fukushima hearing has been destroyed.”

In addition, Park Kwang-on, floor leader of the Democratic Party, said, “If we do not deal with it today, there may be a situation where we will see the discharge of contaminated water in Fukushima and dumping in the sea as it is.” ” he confronted.

Previously, on the 27th, the Democratic Party adopted a related resolution at the National Assembly’s agricultural and marine affairs committee, and the people’s power resisted the resolution and exited while not participating in the vote.
