Opponents gathered in Caracas to support candidate Edmundo González

  • The route from Plaza Brión in Chacaíto, towards Altamira began at 3:44 p.m.

Dozens of people gathered on Thursday, July 4, in the vicinity of Brión de Chacaíto square, Chacao municipality, in Caracas, to support candidate Edmundo González and opposition leader María Corina Machado at the start of the electoral campaign leading up to the presidential elections on July 28, 2024.

The team of The newspaper He confirmed that at 2:00 pm the opposition began to gather, moving from Sabana Grande Boulevard to Plaza Brión to wait for the opposition leaders.

Approximately an hour and a half later, the opposition march was located on Francisco de Miranda Avenue, near the Lido shopping center, and at 3:44 pm began its route and made its first stop in Altamira.

Groups of motorcyclists also joined the rally, some of them carrying flags of Venezuela or of the political parties Vente Venezuela and Un Nuevo Tiempo.

Citizen Carlos Rangel said in an interview for The newspaper who attended the opposition rally because he hopes that a change of government will take place in the next presidential elections.

Campaign Kick-Off Tour

Machado and the unitarian candidate are expected to visit several points in Caracas until they reach the El Marqués sector, in the Sucre municipality, Miranda state. For this trip, the opposition leader urged the 24 parishes of Caracas and the inhabitants of Miranda and Vargas to join the mobilization.

“Let them join together like gullies and streams into a super swollen river, and we will unite all the people who come from their homes, from their communities, from their urbanizations,” Machado said on July 1, 2024, prior to the start of the electoral contest.

For his part, Jorde Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly (AN) and campaign manager of President Nicolás Maduro, called on the government supporters to rally on July 4.

The march had two starting points: Petare parish, Sucre municipality; and Catia, Libertador municipality, both heading to Miraflores Palace, in the center of Caracas.

María Corina Machado joined Edmundo González’s caravan when it was located in the Campo Alegre sector, following being detained by a group of officers from the Bolivarian National Police (PNB), who asked the leader for her documentation and the papers of the motorcycle she was traveling on.
