OPPO is expanding its partnership with Hasselblad, a Swedish manufacturer of photographic systems, with the announcement of a new generation of HyperTone technology, which promises to make the images captured by your cell phone lenses even more realistic. The announcement was made on Wednesday (08), during the 2023 Paris Photo event.
HyperTone originally debuted with the launch of the OPPO Find X6 in March 2023, bringing advances in computational photography. According to the Chinese brand, the new generation of technology will arrive in 2024, signaling the launch of a new line of advanced cell phones — possibly referring to the OPPO Find X7.
The technology has three fundamental features. One of them is the “All Main Camera System”, which uses the computational power of the hardware used in cell phones to ensure that all lenses on a cell phone — whether the main, ultrawide or telephoto — present the same high quality and precision of detail.
The second component of HyperTone is the Image Engine, which consists of a series of algorithms aimed at correcting errors in digital images. In its first generation, this engine promises to reduce photo noise by up to 60%.
Finally, the HyperTone ProXDR Display is a feature that improves the viewing experience of images captured through the lenses of OPPO cell phones. With more accurate recording of pixel brightness, the technology can present up to eight times more dynamic range on the screen to ensure more vivid and realistic color tones.
According to OPPO, HyperTone will require “400% more computing power” in its next generation, but it will result in details that are even more faithful to reality. The ProXDR Display, for example, will now be compatible with the Ultra HDR standard.
For fans of portrait mode capture, OPPO promises major improvements to Hasselblad Portrait, powered by Image Engine, which will offer more balanced colors, prioritizing naturalness, and new cinematic effects. Finally, there will be improvements in skin tone reproduction.
OPPO states that the new generation of HyperTone will debut in the next cell phones in the “Find” line, which houses its most advanced products. The Find X7 and Find X7 Pro, for example, are billed as the brand’s next top-of-the-line products, although there is also an expectation that the new features will be used in the next foldables in the Find N line.
