Insistent rumors point to the fact that the Oppo and OnePlus brands might withdraw from the European markets. However, officially, they deny these statements by claiming to maintain their commitments.
The origin of the story goes back to a complaint filed in Germany by the Nokia brand for infringement of one of its patents relating to 4G and 5G technologies by the Oppo and OnePlus brands. The latter were found guilty of using 4G and 5G signals without paying the corresponding license having judged that the amount was far too high. This led to an update of the German Oppo site which is completely emptied of all mentions of a telephone, for example. Ditto for the OnePlus site. We then wondered if the brands would continue to market mobile phones in Europe following this decision.
In March, during the MWC in Barcelona, the brands were relatively discreet. Oppo had no announcement to make since it had launched the Find N2 Flip a few weeks earlier on the French market, but OnePlus was still showing the innovative OnePlus 11 Concept. A little before the official presentation of the new high-end Find X6 series, rather well-informed people advanced the fact that the Find X6 Pro would not be available in all markets and might be offered only in China, disconcerting information when we know that brands like to show their know-how and that the X6 Pro version represents what the company knows how to do best in the field of telephony and on-board photography. We therefore expected to welcome the standard version, Find X6, soon, but in the meantime, a new rumor arrived: Max Jambor tweeted that the Oppo and OnePlus brands were withdrawing from the European markets. It was not very clear which countries would be affected, which leaves the door open to almost all possibilities. France represents one of the largest markets for these brands and its withdrawal might lead to particularly harmful consequences.
The floor at Oppo France
We were able to contact Oppo France and the representatives of the brand told us that they would continue to be present. According to them : “OPPO and OnePlus maintain their commitments in all European markets in which they are present. We have had a great start to 2023 with successful launches of several products in Europe and we have a range of products to come for the rest of the year. As always, OPPO and OnePlus will continue to provide more innovative products and the best service for users. »
We will therefore see in the coming weeks or months to come if, in fact, the products arrive. OnePlus is expected to make the Nord CE 3 Lite 5G mid-range smartphone official on April 4, and we’re waiting for news of the Find X6 series releasing with a Pro version…or not.
