OPPO announced, on Friday (27), the launch of a new basic mid-range cell phone with a focus on cost-benefit to compete with the most popular manufacturers in India. The OPPO A79 5G is the brand’s new device to compete with the Galaxy A14 5G and POCO M6 Pro, opting for a more modern look to stand out.
Bringing a renewed design and abandoning the outdated features of its predecessor, the new cell phone is equipped with a 6.56-inch IPS LCD screen similar to that of the OPPO A78, but its resolution goes from HD+ to Full HD+ with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and 90 Hz refresh rate. The notch is replaced by a hole to house the front camera.
In the photography department, the model has a 50 MP main camera with a 5-element lens, f/1.8 aperture and support for video recording at up to Full HD @ 30 FPS. Additionally, there is an auxiliary lens with a 2 MP sensor. On the front, there is an 8 MP camera that also supports recording videos in Full HD @ 30 FPS.
The OPPO A79 5G is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 6020, an entry-level performance platform that delivers 5G connectivity, featuring an 8-core CPU and Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. The model stands out for its memory configuration that combines 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM with 128 GB of internal storage expandable with a MicroSD card.
Powering this hardware is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W SUPERVOOC fast charging. Other specs include a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button, Dual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, and a headphone jack with standard P2. The phone will come out of the box running Android 13 with ColorOS 13.1.
The OPPO A79 5G is available from this Saturday (28) with suggested price of ₹19,999 (regarding R$1,190) at the brand’s official store in India. There are two color options: black or blue. For now, there is no forecast for launch in other countries.
