Oppenheimer collected 13 Oscar nominations, surpassing all competitors

Director Christopher Nolan’s film regarding the “father of the atomic bomb” has the most nominations for this year’s Academy Awards. Oppenheimer can think of 13 Oscars, including Best Picture. There are nine other candidates in the main category, Barbie, Killers of the Blooming Moon and Poor People are also nominated.

The four listed titles are seen by critics as the main favorites to win the most prestigious award. Nolan’s three-hour opus regarding the physicist Robert Oppenheimer has already had a very successful night at the Golden Globes, where he converted five of eight nominations. The Oscars will be held in Los Angeles on March 10.

According to the AP agency, behind Oppenheimer in the number of nominations is the comedy The Poor, directed by Jorgos Lanthimos, which has 11, and the historical drama Killers of the Blooming Moon, directed by Martin Scorsese, with ten. According to the media, he has already earned his tenth nomination for best director. Box office hit Barbie collected eight nominations.

The ten finalists are completed by the films Winter Vacation, Zone of Interest, Anatomy of a Fall, Maestro, Past Lives and American Fiction. According to Variety magazine, for the first time in the history of the Oscars, three films directed by women are nominated in the main category.
