Operations at Munich Airport have been temporarily suspended due to the blizzard

All flights were canceled or delayed from 6 am. until 12 o’clock local (from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lithuanian) time. The airport also warned that later scheduled flights may be affected due to adverse weather conditions.

On Monday evening, Germany’s second largest airport announced that it would be temporarily closed due to the weather forecast for Tuesday.

All flights at this airport were also suspended on Saturday due to heavy snowfall across the southern German region of Bavaria.

Weather conditions also affected car and train traffic.

Two people were killed in a collision between a car and a tractor-trailer on the A8 in Upper Bavaria. The German news agency DPA reported that, according to the police, on Tuesday night, the tow truck stopped due to the icy surface of the highway, and the car crashed into the back of it.

The A99 near Munich was closed in both directions after 13 vehicles were involved in a mass traffic accident, DPA reported. Information on possible injuries was not immediately available.

Rail operator Deutsche Bahn said traffic in the Munich region would be disrupted for several days.

Deutsche Bahn also suspended train services to the Austrian cities of Salzburg and Innsbruck and the Swiss city of Zurich.

The operator added that trains may be canceled or delayed in other parts of southern Germany. Passengers have been asked to postpone non-essential travel until Wednesday.

In southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland, heavy snow disrupted public transport and created the risk of avalanches.
