Up to 3,000 American reservists can be deployed on the Old Continent, announced Joe Biden, who wants to strengthen the presence of the United States in Europe as part of Operation “Atlantic Resolve”.
More US Army Reservists in Europe? This is the decision taken by Joe Biden on Thursday to strengthen NATO on the Old Continent, more than 500 days after the start of the war in Ukraine.
“I consider it necessary to increase the presence of the armed forces of the United States for the proper conduct of Operation Atlantic Resolve”, writes the American president in a document published by the site of the White House.
This operation, carried out since 2014 by Washington and its allies, “allows to test the mechanisms of coordination and military mobility between European countries”, explained in 2020 the General Staff of the Armies, when an American ship had landed at the port of La Rochelle.
According to the order signed by Joe Biden, up to 3,000 reservists can be mobilized. It is not specified when they will be deployed in Europe, nor where precisely, points out Politico.
Thousands of American soldiers on the Old Continent
This is not the first time since the start of the war in Ukraine that Washington has sent troops to the Old Continent. To reinforce NATO before the start of the conflict between Moscow and kyiv, up to 8,500 soldiers were already present in Europe.
Politico indicates that after the start of the war, 20,000 additional soldiers were sent to different countries in Europe.
This Thursday during a trip to Finland, US President Joe Biden also reaffirmed his support for Ukraine, after meeting Volodymyr Zelensky at the NATO summit in Vilnius.
“I hope, and it is my expectation, that Ukraine will make meaningful progress in its offensive and that it will lead to a negotiated settlement at some point,” the White House tenant said.
