The creative duo Stephanie Gundelach and Awa Malina presented their OpéraSport Autumn-Winter 2023 collection as part of Copenhagen Fashion Week AW23. The characteristic bows of the last collection were allowed to stay and are complemented this year by A-line cuts and warming layers.
OpéraSPORT sets a good example and tries to minimize global CO2 emissions by producing in the most responsible way possible. From the first collection, fabrics were made from industrial waste. These include silk, wool and polyester. If the cotton is not also recycled, it is organic and GOTS-certified.
Sporty functionality and feminine elegance
The main source of inspiration for OpéraSport this season has been the paintings of artist Tom Anholt. In a successful collaboration, his paintings were used as prints. The collection is therefore a little darker than usual, as the starry sky in dark blue and purple tones set the tone for the color palette. In addition, the upcycled exhibits were adorned with embellishments from his designs. Finally, the collection surprises with some western details. These complete the elements of the printed painting of a white horse.
Influenced by everyday life in Copenhagen and Paris, the collection has been designed with sporty functionality and feminine elegance in mind to create pieces that will be worn often and eventually passed on to future generations. A new logo is also introduced for the new season, embroidered on denim and visible on key fobs hanging from belt loops, buttons and zips.
As the OpéraSport Autumn Winter 2023 collection draws inspiration from the world of art, the show took place in one of Copenhagen’s most notable architectural art spaces, Den Frie. With its large open spaces and the beautiful incidence of light, the aesthetic expression gives life to the collection. The show video can be viewed at the link.
