The “2022 News Photo Exhibition”, which looks back on the year with news photos, started on December 14th at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store in Chuo-ku, Tokyo. It is sponsored by the Tokyo Photographic Journalists Association, which has 35 members, including newspaper companies and news agencies.
The best news of 2022 is still “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.” It had a big impact on our lives, such as high prices in familiar places. The Mainichi Shimbun’s article “Thinking regarding the Ukrainian Sky” was also selected for the Association Award Grand Prix. A woman boarding a bus reserved for refugees and looking up at the sky through the glass reflecting the Ukrainian flag was photographed at Poland’s eastern border in March.
This is the “destroyed city” taken in April near Kyiv, Ukraine. Destroyed armored vehicles and burnt scars remain on the streets where Ukrainian and Russian forces fought fiercely, highlighting the horrors of war. In Japan, there was a disturbing incident that “former Prime Minister Abe was shot dead”.
It was a noisy year inside and out,Many in the quad axel (quadruple and a half jump) challenge at the Beijing OlympicsWhat encouraged the people ofYuzuru Hanyu, a professional figure skater. There is also a professional conversion in July, etc.It has also won the grand prize of the “Yahoo! This photo was taken in AugustThis is the scene where I am choosing songs to play on the rink at the first public practice following turning pro.
This year, there was Hanyu’s “treasure photo” coat. It seems that the stickers are changed every few days, so there must have been a large number of applications from photographers from various companies. You can see how attractive Mr. Hanyu is as a subject.
I was soothed by the pictures of the beauty of nature, such as this Yomiuri Shimbun reporter Yu Iwasa’s “Ezo Deer Appearing at Dusk”.
The end of the year is a busy time, but how regarding looking back on the year while looking at the photos? (Yomiuri Shimbun Art Exhibition Navigation Editorial Team, Hiroshi Wakamizu)
