Opening of the conference to accelerate the financing of green hydrogen projects in Africa

The Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy organized, Thursday in Nouakchott, a conference on the acceleration of the financing of green hydrogen in Africa, in cooperation with the African Green Hydrogen Alliance (AGHA), the Green Hydrogen Organization (GH2) and the World Bank.
The two-day conference aims to shed light on the problems of financing green hydrogen projects in Africa and explore ways to accelerate them. It will also have to discuss the decisive transformations necessary to achieve advantageous results.
The Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Mr. Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh, explained, on this occasion, that the implementation of the strategy for the development of green hydrogen, which enjoys broad support from partners in the development, requires the mobilization of large external investments in a short period of time.

He stressed that the conference constitutes a model of coordination between governments, development partners, financing institutions and the private sector before specifying that the participants will study the best means of accelerating the pace of investments in the projects of green hydrogen in Mauritania and Africa.

The sessions on the first day of the conference had several sessions, including one dedicated to the financing of pioneering projects in Africa. This is how the debates were centered on the methods of financing the pioneering incentive projects and on what is required of the private sector and partners.

Regarding the recommendations of this session, Mr. Bala Mahamane Rabiou, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies of Niger, stressed the need for African countries to enter into industrialization, explaining that it is not It is not possible to continue to export raw materials to industrialized countries without the exporting countries benefiting from their added value.

The day was also marked by a session on “tangible obstacles and solutions for the financing of green hydrogen projects in Africa”. During this session, the discussion revolved around new and innovative financing mechanisms to unlock the required capital.

The speakers praised Mauritania’s potential in the field of renewable energies and noted the distinctive value of the projects developed by Mauritania and the competitive advantages offered by these projects.
