ALGIERS – The national airline Air Algérie announced the opening of a direct line linking Algiers to the city of Johannesburg (South Africa) with two (2) flights per week (Sunday and Thursday) from September 21 next.
In a statement to APS on Tuesday, Air Algerie spokesman Amine Andaloussi said that the official inauguration of this line was scheduled for August 21, a month before the first commercial flight.
The price of the return ticket will cost from 67,327 DA TTC, said the manager, who pointed out that the flights of this line are scheduled every Sunday and Thursday.
“The opening of this line comes in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at strengthening the international network of Air Algérie and developing the Algiers Hub. It is also part of the the roadmap drawn up by the Ministry of Transport and the national airline for the opening of lines allowing the latter to position itself in Africa”, he said.
And to add that the opening of the Algiers-Johannesburg line was of “great importance” for the African continent, in that it constitutes a non-stop service between the “two gateways to Africa”.
“Travellers from South Africa and neighboring countries will thus be able to pass through the Algiers Hub to reach various destinations offered by the company in Europe, Asia, North America and South America”, explained Mr. Andaloussi.
In addition, this line will strengthen the place of Algiers Airport as a Hub, he said, recalling the rich program of international flights planned by Air Algérie, with in particular 200 weekly flights to France.
The new Algiers-Johannesburg line comes following the inauguration, on July 26, of the direct line linking Algiers to the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, with three (3) flights per week (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday).
Other lines will be opened by the national airline to Libreville (Gabon), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Abuja (Nigeria), Douala (Cameroon), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Hong Kong ( China), New York (United States of America), Caracas (Venezuela) and Havana (Cuba).
