Opened the link that came on the phone; Actress Nagma victim of fraud, loss 1 lakh

Mumbai ∙ Actress and Congress leader Nagma became victim of cyber fraud. The actor lost Rs. The money was lost when he clicked on the link in the SMS sent to the phone to update personal information related to the bank account (KYC). Nagma said that following clicking on the link, the fraudsters got remote access to her mobile phone.

Fraudsters logged into the bank account and transferred Rs. The actress says that she received multiple OTPs but did not share them with anyone. The message was clicked thinking it was sent by the bank. The message was not from an unknown number but was sent in the usual way by banks. The actress said that she realized it was a scam only following she clicked and lost the money.

Nagma also filed a complaint following the news of actress Malvika (Swetha Menon) being cheated. Active in South Indian, Bhojpuri and Bollywood films, Nagma was a Congress candidate in Meerut, UP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Police have warned to be vigilant as online financial scams are rampant.

Lakhs are reached by those offering various help including PAN card, Aadhaar card, KYC update and electricity bill payment. More than 100 people in the city lost their money within two weeks following clicking on the link sent to the mobile phone SMS. In the last 6 months, there have been 150 cases of scams by offering help in paying the current bill and saying that the connection will be disconnected if the bill is not paid immediately.
