It’s not not the first time trying to ban ChatGPT. This is particularly the case of Italy, which has banned the chatbot on its territory before backtracking. Earlier this year, New York banned OpenAI’s chatbot for education. However, its use by students is a resounding success, even with parents. But iHeartMedia disagrees. and asks its employees not to use ChatGPT.
For example, iHeartMedia CEO Bob Pittman and CFO Rich Bressler reportedly emailed company employees yesterday asking them to do not use OpenAI’s chatbot or any other technology using AI. Officials fear that its use will cause a data leak that might jeopardize the future of the company. Indeed, we must not forget that OpenAI assimilates conversations by default and uses them to train its artificial intelligence systems.
This decision is however surprising on the part of the company. In effect, iHeartMedia has embraced AI in the past. The broadcaster used it to power an artificial DJ. This decision has also caused many layoffs within the company. The company is currently working on its own set of AI tools. which will be deployed throughout the company.
iHeartMedia specifies: “Although AI, including ChatGPT and other ‘conversational’ AIs, can be extremely helpful and truly transformative, we want to be smart regarding how we implement these tools to protect ourselves, our partners, our company information and our users’ data. For example, if you upload information regarding iHeart to an AI platform (like ChatGPT), it will effectively train that AI so that anyone – even our competitors – can use itincluding all of our competitive and proprietary information“.
