The medical care center in the Bautzen hospital is expanding its medical spectrum. Phoniatrics and pediatric audiology have been added to the ear, nose and throat department. This involves the diagnosis and therapy of diseases and disorders of speech and voice, swallowing and hearing disorders. Patients are given an appointment when they present a referral from their GP.
Range of services at a glance
• basic phoniatric care
Outpatient presentation of patients with abnormalities in voice, speech, language and swallowing in adults and children.
• basic pediatric audiological care
Audiological diagnosis of peripheral and central hearing disorders as well as central auditory processing and perception disorders (AVWS) and dyslexia (LRS). Therapies that can be carried out on an outpatient basis are initiated.
• Universal newborn hearing screening
Registration of hearing-impaired children: Diagnostics by the third month at the latest and care before the sixth month of life.
- Stage 1: Initial or follow-up screening for newborns and infants
- Step 2: Control hearing screening following conspicuous initial screening.
- If the test-remarkable finding is confirmed, the patient is referred to stage 3.
• Dysphagia diagnosis
Diagnosis of swallowing difficulties, carrying out a flexible endoscopic evaluation of the act of swallowing (FEES). This examination is also required to create a therapy plan and to monitor progress.
