39 scientists and numerous representatives of civil society are calling for an end to the blockade
Vienna (OTS) – in one open letter appeal today 39 climate researchers and scientists from related fields as well as representatives of civil society from Doctors for a Healthy Environment, Fridays For Future, GLOBAL 2000, climate referendums, Ökobüro, environmental umbrella organization, VCÖ – Mobility with a future and WWF to the new SPÖ party leader Andreas Babler to seek cooperation with the governing parties again on climate protection and the energy transition.
“We can achieve the climate goals and protect the population from increases in energy prices on energy markets,” the signatories are convinced. “But that is only possible in constructive cooperation. We therefore call on all parliamentary parties to initiate effective climate protection measures. Real progress can only be made when what we have in common takes precedence over what divides us.
Against this background, in addition to the SPÖ, the governing parties and the other opposition parties are also called upon to get involved in a constructive and solution-oriented manner, because the proposals and measures known to date still need to be significantly improved and expanded.
Climate researchers and environmentalists emphasize that it is the The task of politics is to show the ability to find solutions and make progress on important issues. Then it can regain more credibility in society and push back disenchantment with politics. Therefore, today’s appeal to the new SPÖ leadership to resume negotiations with the federal government on two-thirds issues and to work constructively for effective climate protection solutions.
