Open Call: CS under 30 – mica

Open call for performances of concert and music performance projects by artists or ensembles under the age of 30 from EU Member States and EFTA countries. Performances of the winning project(s) at the Festival Carinthischer Sommer 2023, Carinthia/Austria and at the Mittelfest 2023 in Cividale del Friuli, Italy. A cooperation between the Carinthian Summer (CS under 30) and the Mittelfest (Mittelyoung).

The youth format Carinthian summer“CS under 30”, is aimed at young artists and ensembles in the EU member states including Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway (EFTA countries).

The idea is to promote and present the diversity and quality of young artists and musicians in Europe. The Carinthian summer in Carinthia and that medium firm in Cividale del Friuli see it as their task to use this cooperation to strengthen cultural diversity in the Alps-Adriatic region and beyond and to invite people from all over the world to visit their festivals.

The Carinthian summer and the medium firm advertise their open calls independently of each other. Information and conditions are published on the website of the respective festival. The call from „CS under 30″ is from January 16 to March 15, 2023 open. At middle youngthe youth format of medium firm, you can submit until February 15, 2023. Artists can apply to one or both calls.

The winning projects will be Carinthian summer and in medium firm each selected by a jury of young curators under the age of 30. The festival directors of both festivals have agreed to present one of the winning projects from the other festival in their festival as well. The participating artists or ensembles will until 14. April 2023 by E-mail regarding the outcome of their submissions informed.

Requirements for participation in the Open Call of the Carinthian Summer

Eligible are:

  • Artists under 30: Individual artists under the age of 30 must be nationals in the EU member states or Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway (EFTA countries) be or have their permanent residence in one of these states/countries.
  • Ensembles consisting of artists under the age of 30: The ensembles can consist of up to 6 people consist. All cast members must be nationals or permanent residents of one of the above states/countries.
  • The members of the artistic cast must at the time of filing the Application 18 years or older and 30 years or younger be. There is no age limit for possible technical support staff. The technical support staff is not part of the artistic maximum cast.
  • Projects must be staged/performed in accordance with applicable pandemic guidelines, particularly in the case of live performances. Given the ongoing epidemiological situation, it is advisable to envisage an artistic evolution of the project in a digital version.

Theme and place of performance in the Carinthian summer

  • The motto of Carinthian summer 2023 is “laugh.” is derived from the title of the five-volume novel by Philipp Weiss: “People sit and laugh at the edge of the world”. In it, the author tells of the transformation of the world in the Anthropocene and, in a variety of ways, creates a panopticon of our fleeing reality. A thematic discussion of the festival theme is desirable but not a prerequisite for submitting a project.

Financial Framework
