The Oostaker jeweler was being prosecuted for provoked murder. The civil parties and the public prosecutor had appealed the decision of the council chamber which had exonerated him for homicide by invoking “irresistible coercion”.
The facts date back to Saturday July 7, 2018 at midday, when two men entered the jewelry store. The investigation showed that they were armed and had seized jewelry. As they fled on a moped, the jeweler chased them with a gun and fired. One of the suspects had been fatally shot.
According to the jeweler’s lawyer, his client had been the subject of “irresistible coercion”, which the council chamber had recognized. But the indictment chamber held the opposite, giving reason to the prosecution.
