Linz (OTS) – If you listen to the new SPÖ boss, it becomes clear what the SPÖ – and in its tow also the union, where obviously impartiality is no longer even lip service – has been regarding since it was founded: regarding the reduction of working time. What was absolutely necessary at the beginning of industrialization seems almost a bit paradoxical in the 21st century. So now 32 hours a week and six weeks vacation are required. And the end of work, i.e. retirement, should take place as early as possible. At the same time, “work” is the core issue of social democracy and the importance of gainful employment is not questioned. Work is a “must” that it can also bring joy and fulfillment is not seen. Somehow the question arises as to how much working time the SPÖ would like to have in the end. With the current requirements, it is almost 1400 working hours per year, with an 8-hour day the equivalent of 175 working days, so the bottom line is that you would have more than half a year off. The SPÖ wants to make us a part-time company with full wage compensation. There will also be a question as to whether part-time workers will still vote for the SPÖ or whether they would prefer to found the Leisure Party Austria – the initials FPÖ have already been taken.
