Linz – Of course, politics also lives from rituals and one of these is the political Ash Wednesday. The year 1919, when the Bavarian Farmers’ Association called for a rally for the first time, is regarded as the official birth year of this tradition. The political ending of carnival fun was created in Bavaria and copied in Austria. Whereby on the other side of the Inn, in the extension of the last carnival night, people “get together” in the morning, in Austria one only fishes the political herring in the evening. But still: It is hearty there as well as there. And yesterday was handed out once more and the political competitor pulled through the cocoa over beer. The only problem is that some of the protagonists get stuck in the foolish hustle and bustle and produce verbal sweepstakes even during Lent. But it would be great if the “Easter penitential period” were taken into account in politics and if, for example, one tried to at least save oneself insults. Polemic fasting would be a new tradition. Dear FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl, set a good example and say something nice regarding a political competitor every day.
