It was wrong for the spectators to pay no attention.
Leonid Gaidai’s favorite folk comedy was released 56 years ago. The simple story of how foreign smugglers confused a courier and a Soviet tourist has turned into a cult classic masterpiece. The tape was dismantled into quotes, but despite this, it still contained episodes with interesting details that were invisible to most viewers and obvious only to professionals.
Of particular interest is the scene in which the policeman hands the main character a pistol. This weapon will then flash in the frame several more times, and although it will not be shown in close-up, it will still be noticeable that it differs from typical Soviet models.
The thing is that Volodya had an Italian-made pistol. For the filming of “The Diamond Arm,” they took the Beretta M1934 model, first produced before World War II.
Mosfilm owned such a captured pistol, which is why it was used in films. But it might hardly be in the hands of a Soviet policeman, because he needed very rare cartridges.
