Dr. Eun-Young Oh presented a solution to a storyteller who is struggling with home shopping addiction. It was a very simple way to not buy the things you want to buy for a week, but to put them in your ‘cart’.
On the 26th, KBS 2TV’s ‘Okay? In ‘Okay!’, there was a scene in which a song instructor, who appeared as a storyteller, complained regarding suffering from a serious home shopping addiction. Even 90% of home delivery packages are home shopping products.
The storyteller said, “I’ve been through all the home shopping that has been going on in recent years. There are regarding 5 days a month that there is no delivery at all. When there are a lot of parcels a day, up to three or four parcels arrive.”
The products that the storyteller mainly bought were kitchenware, clothes for various hobbies, and various foods such as snacks, convenience food, and nutritional supplements. The storyteller said, “I only estimated the money I spent on home shopping so far, and it was the price of an imported car.”
About the occurrence of these addiction symptoms, he said, “I started to work and started to pay attention to home shopping,” he said. I mightn’t do what I wanted to do for my children, and I mightn’t buy what I wanted to buy. So, if I had enough money to spare, I thought, ‘I’ll have to buy the things I want with my own strength’.”
The storyteller also said, “Actually, I spend a significant portion of my income on my shopping and hobbies. So I’m not saving much. It is difficult to decide whether it is right to collect thrifty measures and take measures for old age, or whether it is good to spend it on me and decorate it happily and happily.”
Dr. Oh Eun-young, who heard this, said, “When it comes to buying something you need, whether you should buy 100,000 won or 500,000 won, if you are more relaxed than before, I think you can choose a product with a reasonable price. It’s because you’re buying what you need,” but pointed out, “But the storyteller doesn’t buy what he needs, but just enjoys the act of living.”
He said, “The storyteller thinks it is important to see and touch things through the act of living. Even if you don’t need it, you’ll be happy if you have boxes piled up. If you say, ‘Stop buying some,’ you will feel like you are being deprived of the happiness and joy that the act of living provides. So I feel very sad, and I feel like I’m not going to be happy for some reason. This is the problem.”
He continued, “I think spending money makes me feel proud of myself that I am a capable person. And it may be an over-compensation for the days when I mightn’t comfortably buy the things I needed. If you look back in a week, 90% of the items will be unnecessary.”
