Study Findings “Endpoint Management“, show that the use of unmanaged connected devices continues to increase, with most organizations having endpoint security blind spots (any device that is physically connected to a network). According to the document, only 43% of respondents say they actively monitor three-quarters or more of their devices.

The study also reveals that in organizations that have between 1,000 and 4,999 devices, 34% of them are not monitored and more than half of managers in these companies report having suffered several cyber attacks as a result of unmonitored endpoint devices.

O study which was carried out by the market analysis institute Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) at the request of the company Syxsense and which interviewed, in the first half of 2023, 380 IT and digital security professionals, in addition to mapping patch management and correction policies. vulnerabilities in smartphones, desktops, notebooks, servers and IoT devices, made it clear that a device without the necessary updates can be an open door to intrusions.

Thiago Felippe, TJ, CEO of Aiqon, a cybersecurity intelligence company, says that another finding of the study that deserves to be highlighted is the fact that, for 50% of those interviewed, their users interact with up to 5 different access devices. “ESG analysts make it clear that updating software in distributed environments and with different endpoint devices continues to be a challenge for organizations”, highlights TJ.

The document reveals how widespread devices of all types are in remote environments – a result not only of home office, but of the demand that many companies face to monitor devices belonging to consultants, salespeople, maintenance technicians, etc. – makes the task of ensuring the security posture of users’ devices challenging.

Still according to the “Endpoint Management” study, another battle front is the increasing dissemination of IoT devices across previously undigitized areas. When asked regarding the increase in the number of access and IoT devices – 59% of respondents say that this increases the complexity of monitoring, while another 22% say that this makes it difficult to protect devices.

TJ explains that for the IT leaders interviewed, organizations are dealing with a challenge that happens simultaneously on two levels: monitoring and securing the access device. “The research highlights that new, extremely distributed attack surfaces make it difficult for the user organization to align with the best practices for secure patch management,” says Thiago Felippe.
