Despite the #MeeToo revolution, the sex life of the French remains marked by the yoke of male domination.

This is revealed by the data collected from May 6 to 11, 2023, in the form of a self-administered questionnaire, from 1,518 French people aged 18 and over by Harris Interactive for Xlovecam.

As a reminder, the #MeeToo movement is a social movement born in 2007 in the United States with the aim of encouraging women to speak out on rape and sexual assault, which are not marginal or exceptional facts in society. This is supposed to have allowed free speech on these subjects, especially since the Weinstein affair in 2017.

Good that the majority of heterosexual couples are still made up of women younger than their partnerthis survey shows that this conjugal model with an age gap in favor of the man, is not necessarily what the majority of women want.

In effect, less than 1 in 4 French women aspire to an older spouse. They are even, on the contrary, 61% to want a partner of the same age.

Despite this, only 12% of marriages that took place in 2017 brought together two beings of the same age.

Sex mainly wanted by men

70% of women reveal that it is their partner who initiates the sexual relationship.

« Barely three out of ten women recognize that they are the ones who most often want to make love in their coupleand contrary to certain received ideas, female initiative is barely stronger among young women under 35 (33%) than among those aged 50 and over (28%)” details the study.

Trying new sexual practices is also something brought regarding mainly by men, up to 49% and 28% among women.

In this same line, men describe their sexuality as more enterprising than that of womenup to 58% once morest 46% among women.

Less female pleasure

Men are more likely to have an orgasm during sexual intercourse compared to women according to the study: “While half of men in a relationship declare (53%) to systematically have an orgasm during sexual intercourse , this is the case for only one in three women (33%). »

This gap is partly explained by the fact that the heterosexual relationship is phallocentric. The most practiced coitus techniques are not always those that give women the most pleasure.. “This is particularly the case with vaginal penetration, which remains by far the most frequent sexual act – 59% of women practice it regularly – even though it is not the most effective. But this is also the case of fellatio, which is a practice that is significantly more widespread (70%) than cunnilingus (62%) among women, although it is very logically less fulfilling for them,” the study points out.

The culture of porn is predominant in the sexual life of the French

The predominant sexual and bodily norms in our society are widely conveyed by , cinema, or even pornography.

These norms influence the sexuality of the French since 62% of women admit to having already been complexed by their body in the context of their sexuality once morest less than one in two men (47%).

These complexes are particularly felt in women under 35 years of age.

More alarmingly, the study reveals that the practices conveyed by pornographic content bring out anxiety in women: “A majority of French women (51%) say they have already been complexed by the fact of not liking certain practices such as oral sex or anal, nearly double what is seen in men (30%). The integration of practices popularized by porn into the sexual repertoire therefore generates anxiety in many women who no doubt see it as a “must pass” when they find no form of personal fulfillment in it. »
