The online platform X, known as Twitter, wants to open an office in the US state of Texas to combat content related to child sexual abuse. The “Trust and Safety Center of Excellence” will hire 100 moderators to remove relevant content from the platform, operations director Joe Benarroch told the AFP news agency on Saturday (local time).

X does not have a business focused on children, but it is important that the company makes these investments “to deter offenders from using our platform to distribute or engage in any child sexual exploitation content,” Benarroch wrote in an email.

According to him, children under the age of 13 cannot even register on the platform, while the accounts of young users aged 13 to 17 are subject to strict data protection regulations and cannot be contacted by advertisers.

The announcement of the offensive once morest content regarding child sexual abuse came ahead of an upcoming hearing by major Internet platforms on this topic before the US Senate Judiciary Committee. In addition to representatives from Meta, Tiktok, Discord and Snap, X managing director Linda Yaccarino will testify there.

The US technology entrepreneur Elon Musk took over Twitter in October 2022 for $44 billion (around €40.5 billion today). As part of a chaotic restructuring of the company, Musk not only gave the short message service a new name with Platform. Observers denounce a significant increase in hate messages and misinformation on X.
