Online fraud in Bahrain; Bangladeshi youth jailed for three years

The High Criminal Court has sentenced the Bangladeshi youth who stole 1500 dinars from a woman through online fraud in Bahrain to three years in prison. A fine of 1000 dinars was also imposed on the accused. After serving the sentence, the accused will be deported. The cyber fraud took place in November last year. The accused called the woman on the phone pretending to be bank employees. They wanted to update the personal information in the bank account. They sent a link to the woman’s phone. The woman opened the link and gave her personal information including mobile number.

It became clear that it was a fraud when 1500 dinars were lost from the account within minutes. Then the accused were arrested during the police investigation.
