To avoid the often endless queues, more and more customers are paying their various bills online. This has the merit of relatively reducing congestion in the cities, the loss of time, having an electronic trace of the payments made… The only downside is that this practice generates an additional charge for the customers of these companies. The Competition Council reacts by pinning the companies concerned for this “abusive” practice.
The competition policeman warns companies using the online payment service for their invoices via the internet, and which make their customers bear the cost of this service in addition to the invoice to be paid, describing this practice as “abusive “, which might distort the free play of competition on the markets concerned, indicates the Council in a press release, this Tuesday, May 16.

“The Competition Council has noted that certain companies operating in different sectors of economic activity and using the service of online payment of their invoices via the Internet, have their customers bear the cost of this service in addition to the invoice to be paid. , while they take full advantage of it by significantly reducing their operating and investment costs related to the collection of these invoices”, specifies the institution which works for fair competition.
The Competition Council considers that this “economically unjustified” practice is “abusive” and might distort “free competition” on the markets concerned by providing undue advantages to certain operators, allowing them to strengthen their positions on said markets, to the detriment of consumers, specifies the same source.

Thus, the body chaired by Ahmed Rahhou encourages these companies to review their practices in this area and reserves the right to initiate proceedings once morest companies that persist in this practice which is detrimental to the development of competition in the digital markets of our economy.
In addition to overwhelming the purchasing power of consumers, the Council points to the negative impact of this practice on digital in Morocco, alerting to the effect of slowing down and hindering the development and growth of the digitalization of our economy, and is thus at odds with the national strategy for the development of digital in Morocco, adds the press release.
