Ongoing COVID-19 Outbreaks at Santa Cabrini Hospital: Preventive Measures and Latest Updates

Four outbreaks of COVID-19 are ongoing at Santa Cabrini Hospital in Montreal. In one of the affected units, 18 out of 30 patients are infected with the virus. According to the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, another outbreak ended yesterday. The health facility says it has put in place various “preventive and hygiene measures” to prevent the spread of the disease.

An “outbreak cell” has been set up in the four units concerned, indicates the CIUSSS. No transfer of patients to other care units is carried out, unless a medical reason justifies it (for example, an admission to intensive care). According to the health establishment, air purifiers have been installed in “several rooms” of infected patients. Staff, attendants and visitors to assigned units must wear an N-95 mask.

“Unfortunately, COVID-19 outbreaks are still things that happen in Quebec health care facilities periodically,” said CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal spokesperson Christian Merciari.

He points out that the Santa Cabrini and Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospitals have chosen to continue screening tests for COVID-19 for all hospitalized patients, including those who show no symptoms. “We are systematic because of the dilapidation of our facilities and the experience of COVID-19 that we have had, explains Christian Merciari. We are very vigilant. »

The Montreal Regional Public Health Department has identified five outbreaks of COVID-19 in hospitals and seven in CHSLDs on its territory for the period from June 4 to 13.
