ONEE strengthens drinking water supply

This large-scale project, which is part of the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program (PNAEPI) 2020-2027, whose agreement was signed on January 13, 2020 before King Mohammed VI, aims to increase the drinking water production capacity of existing facilities by an additional flow of approximately 13,820 m3/day.

With a total cost of 680 million dirhams, financed by a loan from the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (FADES), the first phase of this project, which concerns the supply of drinking water to the city of Chefchaouen whose population is 43,000 inhabitants, includes the construction of a treatment station with a nominal flow rate of 13,820 m3/day, two treated water reservoirs with an overall capacity of 3,500 m3, two recovery stations as well as the laying of 21 km of supply pipes and the supply of the power line.

The second phase of this project, which will be commissioned gradually from the summer of 2023, will concern the supply of drinking water to 240 douars with an overall population of 150,000 inhabitants. The final commissioning of this project is scheduled for the summer of 2024.

This major project will make it possible to secure the drinking water supply in this region by 2040. It will also contribute to improving the living conditions of the populations and supporting the socio-economic development of the region.
