CThis is a large-scale project that is part of the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program (PNAEPI) 2020-2027. Signed on January 13, 2020, this agreement aims to secure the drinking water supply in the southern zone of the city of Casablanca.
Securing which should be done through the construction of a hydraulic connection between the north and the south of the city in order to cope with the effects of the water deficit of the Oum Er Rbiaâ basin and which has had an impact on the volumes mobilized at the dams located in this basin.
At a cost of approximately 180 million dirhams, this project mainly comprises the laying of a pipeline over a length of approximately 7.5 km linking the existing Bouregreg adduction supplying the north of the city of Casablanca and the reservoir of distribution of Médiouna located in the south of the city.
This new pipe will allow, in a first phase, to transit by gravity a flow of 1550 liters per second. Similarly, ONEE is building a booster station to increase the flow through this pipe to 2,500 liters per second during the 2nd phase, which is scheduled to come into service at the end of 2022.
Thus, this first phase of the project will make it possible to transfer an annual volume of approximately 80 million m3 from north to south of Casablanca and to ensure optimal management of the water resources available at the level of the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah dam and the Oum Er Rbiaâ basin.
In the same context, ONEE will begin work on the second phase of this project in June 2022, which will consist of extending this new pipeline over a length of approximately 7.1 km to also serve the Bouskoura reservoir.
This second phase will also strengthen the booster station by increasing its capacity to 4,000 liters per second. The amount of work for this second phase is estimated at 120 million dirhams and the commissioning of the latter is scheduled for July 2023.
