ONEE raises children’s awareness of the profession of water quality control

Rabat – A group of children benefited, on Thursday, from an awareness-raising and initiation to the profession of water quality control at the initiative of the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE).

The event took place in two stages, the first of which involved initiation workshops on the profession of water quality control at Bouznika beach, while the second consisted of a visit to the central laboratory at the Complex Bouregreg in Rabat.

This initiative aims to explain to beneficiaries the important role played by ONEE in the fight once morest pollution, the control of water quality and the preservation of consumer health.

In a statement to MAP, Abdelah Belhaj, director of water quality control at ONEE, recalled the essential role played by the office in terms of water quality control during all phases of the hydrological cycle. , from surface or underground water sources, through treatment plants in distribution networks, to the consumer’s tap.

“We also control waste water in treatment plants,” he said, adding that this monitoring is carried out according to well-defined applicable criteria.

“During the summer, we control the water quality of certain beaches and swimming pools such as Bouznika beach, labeled Blue Flag,” said Mr. Belhaj, noting that the quality of bathing water is one of the criteria for obtaining this environmental label.

“As in previous years, ONEE is organizing awareness and information sessions for the benefit of a group of children, the objective being to instil in them a set of values ​​such as the preservation of the environment. , the fight once morest pollution and the rational use of water, especially in these times marked by drought and water scarcity.

In this context, he continued, several workshops are organized to become familiar with certain microbiological and physicochemical tests, explained in a simplified way.

During this event, the children had the opportunity to participate in a workshop where water samples were taken and analyzed, with explanations of the different equipment and the stages through which the quality control process passes. water carried out by specialized laboratories.

The children were also made aware of the role of treatment plants which purify and filter water so that it is of a quality that meets national and international standards, and of the importance of reservoirs which play a major role in the water distribution.

The importance of water and the means of conserving this vital substance were also at the center of several workshops, alongside environmental education and water sports, which are part of the activities offered. by ONEE at Bouznika beach, which will continue until next September.
