One step closer: Cross the fjord dry-shoe between two new urban areas

One step closer: Cross the fjord dry-shoe between two new urban areas

But time will tell whether what could perhaps be called the 4th Limfjord connection overtakes the gigantic project over Egholm in terms of time – at least a spectacular bicycle and pedestrian bridge has come one step closer.

With a donation of just over DKK 2.4 million for feasibility studies, a new cycle and pedestrian bridge has at least come a step closer.

Connects districts

The idea for the spectacular bridge project was launched a few years ago, and the bridge – as it has been named – will not only connect Himmerland and Vendsyssel, but also two of the newest and most densely populated urban areas in Aalborg: the Stigsborg area in Nørresundby with up to 10,000 inhabitants in the long term and then the neighborhood around Østre Havn and the Øgade quarter with 11,500 inhabitants.

It is AN-TV that has come up with the latest donation – an association whose purpose today is to support public and non-profit purposes in Aalborg Municipality.

Sale of building plots

Aalborg Municipality and Stigsborg P/S are collaborating on the bridge project, which is expected to be up to 650 meters long with a width of 6.5 meters and a clearance of four to five meters.

According to the plan, it is to be equipped with a so-called double swing bay, which opens up a 70-metre wide passage.

It could cost up to half a billion kroner to build the bridge.

DKK 200 million should be in place -100 million. DKK from Stigsborg P/S and DKK 100 million DKK, which the city council in Aalborg is betting on being able to contribute. The money is to come, among other things, from the sale of building plots in the Stigsborg quarter.

It is Aalborg Municipality’s ambition to get the state to contribute DKK 150 million. DKK, according to a press release from AN-TV.

– There is a difference between building a basic bridge and an architectural gem, but we are aiming high and want the new bridge connection to have a landmark effect, says Mayor Lasse Frimand Jensen.

The political vision with the bridge project is, among other things, to promote sustainable transport.

**Interview with Anders Jensen, Project Coordinator ‍at Aalborg Municipality**

**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us, Anders. ⁢The new cycle and pedestrian bridge ⁣seems like an exciting development for Aalborg. Can you tell us more about the project’s‍ significance?

**Anders Jensen:** Thank you for having me. This bridge is‌ a vital connection between the Himmerland⁢ and Vendsyssel regions and will link two of ⁣Aalborg’s most densely populated urban areas: the Stigsborg area and⁣ the Øgade quarter. It’s not ⁢just about ⁤providing a route for cyclists and pedestrians; it’s about enhancing mobility and ‌promoting sustainable transportation in our‌ city.

**Interviewer:** It sounds⁤ like it will have a significant impact on local residents. What features are planned for the bridge?

**Anders Jensen:** Yes, ⁢the⁣ bridge is designed to be⁤ quite ‍impressive. It will be 650 meters long and 6.5 ‍meters ⁣wide, ‌with a double⁤ swing bay to ensure a 70-meter wide passage for boats. This design will allow for efficient use by both pedestrians and cyclists while accommodating maritime ‌traffic.

**Interviewer:** That’s fascinating! The bridge is expected to come at quite a cost. How is the project being funded?

**Anders Jensen:**⁢ Indeed, the projected⁢ cost is around half a billion kroner. We’re pursuing multiple funding sources, including DKK 200 million from Stigsborg P/S and another DKK 100 million⁢ from the Aalborg city council. We’re⁤ also working on securing DKK 150 million from the state. Additionally, some funds‌ will come from the sale of building plots in the Stigsborg area.

**Interviewer:** It’s‍ great to ‍see such commitment from different levels of government and organizations. The feasibility studies⁤ were recently funded, marking a crucial step forward. What’s the timeline for the project from here?

**Anders Jensen:** After the feasibility studies, we will move on to detailed planning and design phases. If everything proceeds smoothly, we anticipate that we could begin construction within the next couple of ‌years. However, timelines can be⁢ influenced by various factors, including funding and ⁣approvals.

**Interviewer:** Thank you, Anders, for shedding light on this important infrastructure project. We look forward to watching its progress!

**Anders Jensen:** Thank you! We appreciate the support and interest ‌from the community, and I’m ⁢excited to see how this project transforms our city!
