Osteoporosis is called a “silent disease” because unlike other diseases, it has few outward signs.
The American Institute of Health explained that osteoporosis is a condition that leads to low bone density, something that begins to affect people as they enter their forties and fifties.
The American Institute on Aging emphasizes that women begin to lose bone density early. But men and women lose bone density at regarding the same rate at a slightly later age.
It does not cause a person to have a fever or cough. Unfortunately, signs of the disease are few unless a person becomes significantly susceptible to fractures in their bones, according to the National Institute on Aging. However, there is one sign that may serve as an early warning when someone develops osteoporosis. The dentist may be the only one who can find out.
And the link between osteoporosis and the mouth, that osteoporosis affects the density of the jaw bone in humans, as it affects the density of the rest of the bones. When the condition progresses to the mouth, a person may end up with a toothache.
One solution, experts suggest, is to eat foods rich in calcium and vitamin D, as well as activities that increase bone weight, such as hiking or weightlifting.
