One of the world’s most dangerous volcanoes erupts

The volcano, one of the most dangerous in the world, and is on the list of 16 “volcanoes of the decade” which are the subject of specific research because they present a significant risk of violent eruptions.

The eruption created plumes of smoke an estimated 3,000 meters high, prompting a warning to airline pilots in the area.

The ash plumes created by the eruption were blown to the northwest, resulting in very fine ashfall in some places, notably at the Ulamona mission, and further on the island of Lolobau.

The volcano is located on the remote Bismarck Archipelago Range in northern Papua New Guinea.

A series of eruptions in 2019 forced thousands to flee their homes.
