One of the tourists who died in the crash in Punta del Este was from Santa Fe

One of the two fatalities in the crash this Wednesday in the Manantiales area, in the Uruguayan city of Punta del Este, was a model from Santa Fe.

María Josefina Ferrero, who died in the frontal impact between two cars on Route 104, was 27 years old and was a native of the Santa Fe city of San Justo. She lived in the provincial capital and worked as a model.

In the accident where six other people were injured, another young woman identified as Micaela Trinidad, who was also Argentine, also died, as did the occupants of the two vehicles that collided head-on, a Ford Ka and a Volkswagen Nivus.

Micaela was the one driving the Ford Ka and Josefina was in the passenger seat. Two other friends were also traveling in the car who were injured. Near them was another vehicle, unidentified, with friends from the same group.

When they were driving along route 104 at the corner of Las Ballenas, for reasons that are still being investigated, they collided head-on with an Argentine patent Volkswagen Nivus. Five people were in that car, four of whom were injured.

The only thing that is known regarding the sinister road so far is that one of the two cars crossed the lane, although it is not known which of the two was nor the reason.

Josefina and Micaela’s group had been in Punta del Este since December 29, they went to spend New Years and stay a few more days on vacation. It was the first time they had visited the Uruguayan peninsula.

The two deceased young women were in a Ford Ka with two other women, while in the Volkswagen Nivus Five people were traveling, at least two of them of Argentine nationality.

Of the injured, the Fire Department indicated that a young woman and another young man from Argentina suffered multiple injuries and were transferred to the Cantegril Sanatorium.

Meanwhile, the other four injured – two men and two women – suffered minor injuries. There was a fifth person who was uninjured.

The forensic report indicated that three of the injured had to be transferred to a health center. Is regarding Melanie Larraburu 27-year-old Argentine, who had to be transferred to the Cantegrill Sanatoriumy Nicolás Rocca, also from Argentina, with polytrauma and blunt abdominal trauma, who was referred to the same health center. The third is the other woman who was traveling in the Ford K.

Meanwhile, the rest of the injured so far are: John Paul Senterodiagnosed with mild trauma; Nazarene Sierraalso with mild trauma; Melina Antunwith mild trauma to the lower limb and Luciano Strasserawith minor trauma.

A man who works near the crash site said: “I work two blocks away and I was the first to arrive, but it was all over, so I don’t know how it happened. I just got they collided head on and in the end the two cars were facing the same way, towards the sea. This is a dangerous curve, uphill.”

“After me, a surgeon arrived who was just passing through the area and helped to lower one of the wounded with a surfboard as a stretcher, because his legs were broken,” he added.

The witness pointed out that “it was the loudest crash I heard in my life. In fact, people from other farms further away also heard it.”

About the place of impact, he said that “in season there are usually crashes, especially people who are not from here. They walk very fast, too fast because you are ten blocks from the beach and there are people who go out with boys, or to walk or run”.

Officials from the Barra de Maldonado and San Carlos Fire Departments worked at the site.

Most of the tasks were focused on rescuing the people who were trapped between the irons of the Ford Ka, according to reports from the Maldonado Fire Department and Police.
