One of the world’s largest laptop makers, Acer, continued to ship hardware to Russia between April 2022 and March this year, even though it said last spring it would suspend its business, according to an analysis published by Archyde.comwho consulted customs data.

At least $70 billion worth of hardware components arrived in Russia in one year, the sources quoted saying that it was regarding monitors, but also laptops.

The equipment arrived in Russia via Acer’s subsidiary in Switzerland, but since the equipment was not manufactured in Taiwan, these deliveries did not violate the sanctions imposed on Russia by the authorities in Taipei. The deliveries also did not violate the laws of Switzerland at the time.

On April 8, 2022 Acer said it was suspending all deliveries to Russia, but customs data shows that this was not the case, and that the company’s products reached the Federation, but in much smaller numbers than before the war.

Customs data obtained by Archyde.com shows 744 shipments of Acer products between April 8, 2022 and March 31, 2023, down sharply from more than 3,700 shipments a year earlier.

Acer had, according to IDC data, 18.5% of the PC market in Russia at the end of 2021.

Acer’s Swiss subsidiary said it no longer shipped desktops and laptops to Russia following April 8, 2022, but added that it had delivered “a limited number of displays and accessories to the Russian market for use of civilians in daily activities, but complying with international sanctions”.
