One of the largest container ships in the world will stop in Morocco

Built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group, China’s number one shipbuilder, on behalf of MSC, the MSC CELESTINO MARESCA will soon be calling in Morocco.

The second of its type and the fifth 24,000 TEU vessel to be delivered in the past nine months, MSC CELESTINO MARESCA is 399.99 meters long and has an overall width of 61.5 meters, an area of bridge equivalent to four standard football pitches. The vessel can carry over 240,000 tons of cargo and load 24,116 TEUs. “Its high-efficiency propellers and energy-saving devices reduce fuel consumption and emissions by around 3-4%,” it says.

Construction of the new vessel – one of 14 such vessels that MSC is building – required the use of advanced automated systems, such as a full bridge, and state-of-the-art fire suppression technology. The carrier will operate nearly half of the 89 major liner container ships that will be added to the fleet of the world’s top 11 shipping lines in 2023, reports Alphaliner.
