The Senegalese striker Sadio Mané joined Saudi club Al-Nassr, where he will play alongside the five-time Ballon d’Or Cristiano Ronaldo. The 31-year-old winger leaves the Bayern Munich, where he only stayed one season. Both clubs announced the transfer on Tuesday.

After passages to FC Metz and at RB Salzburg, Mané has spent a large part of his career in England. Between 2014 and 2016, his dribbling, his speed and his sense of goal (25 achievements) made the happiness of Southampton, with whom he played 74 matches. Transferred to Liverpool for 36 million euros in 2016, Mané was one of the major players in many titles in the north of England: the club’s first English championship since 1990 (2020), the Champions League (2019) and two national cups (2022) among others. In Jürgen Klopp’s system, which relies on high pressing and quick counters, Mané shines with his attacking partners Mohamed Salah et Roberto Firmino. In six seasons with the Reds, Mané scored 120 goals in 169 appearances, managing to consistently score at least ten league goals each season. He finished second in the 2022 Ballon d’Or following also winning the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Arrived in Munich to remedy the departure of Robert Lewandowski, Mané struggled to find his place on the pitch and also suffered from a knee injury which sidelined him for three months. Last April, he was punished (one game suspension and heavy fine) by his club for an altercation with his teammate Leroy Sané. At Al-Nassr, Mané is the fourth arrival of the summer following midfielders Fofana School et Marcelo Brozóvic and the lateral Alec Telles.
