One more: iPhone is sold for… R$6.2 million at a Revenue auction!

Just under a month after we talked about the sale of three iPhones for no less than R$12.6 million in one of the Federal Revenue auctions for seized items, now another similar case occurred at the Customs auction at Guarulhos Airport (SP), whose bidding session took place yesterday (11/22).

Among the almost 50 lots containing just one iPhone 14 Pro Maxa computer products company bought one for no less than R$6.2 million. That’s right: although the lot in question was one of several that required just R$2,389.00 as an initial bid, the company offered a zillion times higher value.

According to G1, most likely it was a typing error when proposing the bid. This is a very plausible hypothesis, given that the company’s initial offer was R$6,000, but only after it was covered by another offer of R$6,187 was the exorbitant amount proposed — which, obviously, won.

Obviously, if it was indeed a mistake, the company will not pay for the device. However, as the proposals are the sole responsibility of the bidders, it will probably be necessary for the company to file an administrative proceeding to prove non-intentionality.

This is because failure to pay for a winning bid may result in some sanctions for the winner, such as (obviously) the loss of the right to receive the lot, an administrative fine of 20% of the minimum value required for the bids and suspension of participation in auctions of the Revenue for up to two years.

Interestingly, this was not the only exorbitant price paid for Apple devices in that same auction. According to the news portal, four other bidders (in these cases, individuals) proposed paying amounts between R$1.05 million and R$2.5 million for six lots with one iPhone each.
