In modern shooters there will always be certain aspects that players don’t like. The Finals has now weakened such a controversial feature following criticism from some players.

What feature is it regarding? The aim assist. Embark Studios released patch 1.4.1 on January 11th, making aim assist worse.

For example, the magnetic effect that pulls a player’s crosshairs towards the opponent has been worsened. This was previously 50% and has now been reduced to 35%.

What is Aim Assist? The Aim Assist is an aiming aid that only controller players can use and is intended to support the player in aiming with the controller sticks. A player’s crosshairs are then automatically drawn in the direction of an opponent.

Aim Assist is intended to provide a balance to aiming with a mouse, allowing players to be more precise by using their entire arm than controller players can with their thumb.

A part of the CoD community has also been wanting the aim assist to be worse for years – and this particularly applies to “mouse and keyboard” players.

Players think the aim assist is too strong. The topic has come up once more and once more, especially in the last few weeks and months (via Reddit). Recently there was even a clip circulating in which the Aim Assist targeted a player who was in a house – behind a wall.

What other changes did The Finals make to the aim assist? In addition to reducing the magnetic effect, Embark Studios made other changes to The Finals’ aim assist.

Here you can see an overview:

  • Die Zoom-Snapping1-Time is reduced from 0.3 seconds to 0.25 seconds.
  • Players who use programs to remap the buttons on the PC should not have access to the aim assist.
  • The aim assist will now ignore invisible players, which has fixed a bug in the existing system.
  • The zoom snapping rotation speed now has a cap to prevent accidental quick 90 degree rotations.
  • Zoom snapping will be removed from the SR-84 Sniper Rifle, Revolver, LH1 and all Shotguns as it buffs these weapons more than other weapons.

The Finals is receiving praise for the change – except from controller players

How are the players reacting to the change? There are some players on social networks, especially controller users, who don’t like the change. For example, the user writes down Fadeaway2000 X.com: “Uninstalled. There are other games. I need aim assist to compete once morest PC players.”

On the other hand, there are users like Vadasz, who writes on X.com: “Any first-person shooter that has problems with aim assist should go this direction! You guys have made me a fan of this game for life!”

But the Aim Assist nerf is also noticed in other gaming communities.

  • Im CoD Warzone Subreddit is written: “If I were a ‘mouse and keyboard’ player, I would switch to The Finals. Get the attention of the COD developers through player numbers.”
  • Respawn and Apex Legends have also been released Reddit mentioned when The Finals’ aim assist nerf was brought up: “Embark has just done what Respawn hasn’t done in over 4 years, and in less than a year.”

Even in esports games like CoD, Apex Legends and Halo, many play with a controller because the aim assist is so strong that a good controller player can be superior to a good mouse and keyboard player.

According to a former CoD professional, playing with the controller can quickly affect your health, as games like CoD and Apex Legends require a lot of input with their demanding movements: Ex-professional explains why streamers stop playing CoD Warzone – the risk of injury is increased large
