One in three women suffers physical or sexual abuse

Approximately one in three women, which is equivalent to 30% in the world, suffers physical and/or sexual abuse, reported the World Health Organization (WHO) in the framework of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence once morest Women. which is celebrated today.

“Almost one in four (24%) adolescents between the ages of 15 and 19 who have had an intimate relationship have suffered physical or sexual violence at the hands of their partner,” the global institution stated on its website, adding that abuse generates effects on physical, mental, sexual and reproductive health that can last a lifetime.

In this sense, he explained the need for countries to adopt measures that guarantee, in all their diversity, that the female gender lives a life free of grievances. “Women and girls affected by violence must have support mechanisms available to them, including safe access to care and services,” the WHO said.

The Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) honored the fight for gender equality during the installation of the Forum on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence once morest Women, which took place yesterday in the capital city.

During her speech, the president of the TSJ, Gladys Gutiérrez, highlighted that women have an active participation in society and that the country has provided various legal tools at their disposal to enforce the Constitution, including the implementation of special courts dedicated to guaranteeing them a life free from violence.
