A tragic mountain accident occurred on Saturday in the Goms valley above the “Ewigschneefäld”.
One person died on Saturday and two others were injured in a mountain accident in the Goms valley, in the Aletsch region (VS), reports the Valais cantonal police. During a ski tour, the victims, all from the canton of Bern, fell into a crevasse above the “Ewigschneefäld”. One of the survivors is in critical condition.
25 meter drop
The tragedy occurred shortly before 11am, at an altitude of 3600m. The three hikers were part of a group of five people, who moved together having formed two roped groups, a group of three and a group of two. During a short stop, the snow collapsed under their skis, and took the group of two hikers in a fall of regarding 25 meters. A person on the other rope also fell, but was held back by his companions.

Quickly alerted and arrived on the spot, the emergency services might only note the death of one of the hikers, a 28-year-old woman living in the city of Bern, following her extraction. Seriously injured, his teammate, a 27-year-old Bernese, was airlifted to the Ile hospital in Bern. His vital prognosis is engaged. As for the third hiker who was held back by his team, he was also airlifted to Interlaken hospital, but he is out of danger.
The group evolved without being accompanied by a guide. An investigation has been opened by the Valais authorities.
