At least one person was killed and 19 others were injured today, Sunday, in a suspected bomb explosion inside a cafe in the northwestern Russian city of St. Petersburg, according to the ambulance services of Russian news agencies.
The Investigation Committee in charge of the main investigations in Russia confirmed that the explosion was caused by an “improvised explosive device,” pointing to the opening of a “criminal investigation” into the incident.
“Today, an unknown explosive device exploded inside a cafe in the center of St. Petersburg,” the investigators said in a statement. According to preliminary data, a military blogger known as “Vladlin Tatarsky” was killed, while 19 people were also injured of varying degrees.
A source in the security forces said, “The power of the explosive device exceeded 200 grams of TNT.”
The Russian Ministry of Interior confirmed that the person who was killed in the explosion was a well-known Russian military blogger, as it stated in a statement, “As a result of the accident, a person died. Military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky.
